BhP Budget Accommodation is committed to ensure an appropriate accommodation service for prospective guests with disabilities. Due to the layout of the building, we do lack facilities for guests with severe mobility limitations as there are no guest rooms on the ground floor, (Exclusive use of the building - speak to owners) and stairs will need to be negotiated to access the bedrooms. The attic room has a narrow steep staircase with limited room and sloping ceilings.
Enquiries using email are available as an alternative for the hearing impaired. Communications within the establishment can be made by written communication and telephone if required.
Assistance (Guide & Hearing) dogs are welcome in all areas with prior notice.
All guest bedrooms and communal areas are fitted with visual and audible smoke detectors. At times there may not be staff on premises so it is advised guests with visual/hearing and mobility impairment be accompanied in the event that emergency information can be communicated verbally.
Parking is on street parking that restricts your stay to 1 hour – No return within an hour. Approximately 2 streets away the restricted zone ends with on street parking and a short walk to the bunkhouse. Blue Badge holders can contact us for more information
Public Transport/Shops etc.
The nearest train and bus stations are approximately 5 – 10 minutes’ walk to the Building. The terrain is flat with no hills, bridges etc to negotiate.
There are numerous Taxi firms in the area and Hackney taxis are also floating about. Taxis can be booked for guests when staff are on premises. Telephone numbers for local taxi firms are displayed on the notice board.
There is a shop close to the building and a pub, hairdresser and launderette nearby. The nearest ATM is at the petrol station, approximately 5 – 10 minutes walking, situated alongside the Railway and Bus station which is a very short drive away.
Assistance with luggage may not be available.
The lounge has a digital TV which also incorporates radio stations.
The stairwells have automatic sensor lighting.
The kitchen has hot beverage facilities, complimentary tea, coffee & powdered milk is available.
The bunkhouse is self-catering with cooking utensils, crockery etc provided. It has a large gas cooker with extractor fitted. Guests are reminded that food hygiene etc is their responsibility.
There is a no smoking policy throughout the building, but a private courtyard area is provided for smoking at the rear of the kitchen/building. Please note there are 2 separate steps to negotiate to access the courtyard.
There are sinks in all bedrooms. Only the double bedrooms are en-suite, the remaining rooms share toilets and showers. There are 2 showers and toilets on the first floor, one also has a sink and another shower and toilet with sink on the ground floor, the ground floor facility has one step down to negotiate.
All the showers are raised so you will have to step up into the cubicles.
Accessing the building
The entrance has a small step up into the building. The front porch area is lit with natural light as well as with electric low energy lighting on a movement detector. The floor covering is laminate within the hallway, there are 2 entrance doors to negotiate and wheelchair users may have to stand and walk through the doors. The building does not have a lift. The staircase in the main house has a single banister rail.
The ground floor is then on one level which includes the Lounge/Diner. All furniture is moveable. The lounge and dining area are laminate flooring. There is a step down into the Kitchen, the kitchen floor is non slip linoleum. The counter tops may be difficult to access in a wheelchair, there is a step down to the rear porch area and ground floor bathroom. The ground floor bathroom has no natural light and has an electric low energy lighting on a movement detector. There is a step down to the rear courtyard area/Smoking area
To access all upper floors including the upstairs bathrooms are by stairs
Guest bedrooms have a double bed, single beds or bunk beds.
All of our bedrooms have natural day light as well as normal lighting. The double rooms have bedside lights. The single and bunk bedrooms have reading lights attached to the beds.
All bedding/pillow protectors and pillows are hypo allergenic. We do not provide feather duvets or pillows. The beds are made for your arrival only.
All bedrooms have a sink, mirror, light over sink There are coat and towel hooks
All rooms have central heating.
All en-suite bathrooms are non-slip linoleum with bathmats.
Communal bathrooms are laminate flooring or non-slip linoleum with bathmats. The toilets are also laminate flooring or non-slip linoleum.
The double bedrooms have a bedside drawers and coat hangers above, the other rooms have either a cupboard or metal lockers
All bunk beds are strong metal construction with metal ladders to the top bunks. The top bunks are fitted with metal side bars to prevent falling out of bed.
